Renaissance Man

I was born and raised in Italy and always found myself out of place wherever I ended up, except for that time in 1996 when I (for the first time) landed in NYC. It was just a family trip celebrating my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. Little they knew, by taking me on that trip they had changed my life.   I spent the next 4 years finding ways to make NYC my home. The journey involved a few years in Milan studying photography at the European Institute of Design (IED) where I was able to win a scholarship to attend School of Visual Arts (SVA) in NYC. Useless to mention, I never left NY.   After graduating and moving to NY I worked as a commercial photographer for clients like Simon & Schuster, Elements Magazine while I was creating work for celebrities, musicians and artists. I exhibited my personal work in NYC, Philippines, Italy and Japan with a sweet highlight for the Venice Biennial when I was a student at IED.   Everything came to a stop in 2010 when the best thing happened in my life. I adopted my daughter and decided to choose her and leave my career.   2024, the year I turn 50, has been a year of rediscovery for me. 13 years of silence ended when I had the privilege and opportunity to open Space Untitled, an art gallery and creative studio in Wilton Manors, Florida. I am excited to reconnect with the art community and to create new work.

  We would love to get to know you better, and we have a few questions that we would like to share with our readers. Q: What does your art future hold for you? I truly don’t know. I just came back to Arts, and it feels all new to me. My wish is to use Space Untitled to give back to my community by helping the underprivileged LGTBQAI+ artists find a place and opportunity to create and exhibit their art by applying for the Free Residency Programs. Q: As you know I am impressed with your work, tell our readers more for example. What are you most proud of, and what sets you apart from others? This is very sweet of you to say. I do my work for me and no one else and leave it to the viewers to connect (or not) with it. When a connection happens, you find your tribe. I used to have my tribe in NY and I’m hoping to find it in South Florida as well. Q: Name a famous artist that inspires you and one not yet famous artist you would like the readers to know about. David Lachapelle, Pierre & Gilles, Frida Kahlo, Tamara De Lempicka, Ellen Von Unwerth and Alexandra Gredler (a friend from IED) is AMAZING!! Q: Is there a current or upcoming show or exhibit you want to let people know about? RENAISSANCE: The Rebirth is on display at Space Untitled and celebrates my return to Arts by showcasing works from a project called Tales in a Box that started in 2004 in NYC as well as 2 new pieces I created in 2024 along with some video art from the past and the present. Q: How are you giving back to your community? Space Untitled Art Gallery offers Free Residency Programs for the underprivileged LGTBQAI+ artists who have never exhibited their work. The selected artists will receive full access to the creative studio, produce new art and then exhibit it at Space Untitled. These programs require a lot of work and resources, and we are looking for donors to help fund them. Donations can be made directly on our website at https://www.untitledwiltonmanors.com/support-us Q: Is there anyone in particular you would like to mention, mentors, etc.? I will never forget Jim Moffat (agent of talents such as Steven Meisel and Annie Liebwitz when I was a student at SVA). He was my teacher for the Friday critique class. During the first class I presented my work and my classmates destroyed me and my artwork. I felt small, embarrassed and humiliated. At the end of the class, he stopped me and said: “I like your work”. I replied: “oh yeah? you are kind”. I had no idea who he was. Then he said:”you should show it to Franca (Sozzani) when you go back to Milan” … me: “ah?” Then he went on explaining who he was and invited me to become an intern at Art&Commerce in NYC. I spent the best time assembling and admiring the pages of the best photographers in the world. Oh, and he arranged for me to have an interview with the editor-in chief of Vogue Italia, how did I forget to mention that? Jim is the most successful humble person I have ever met. I think of him often when I have my small moments of success. The works featured here are available for purchase directly through the Artist.
