About Kristina:
Kristina Skilling MSc, Director and Co-Founder of the Museum of Beadwork, is an artist, archeologist and historian who traces the human narrative to connect historical practices to the development of technologies and products throughout humanity’s history. As a professionally trained artist and scientist, she engages diverse audiences through the creation of art and adornment, microscopy-based research, and by co-founding the Museum of Beadwork; one goal of which is to show the connection of peoples through the common human practice of ornamentation and design. She holds two B.A’s in Metals and Jewelry, and Classical Languages, as well as an M.Sc. from the University of Aberdeen in Archeology. The Museum of Beadwork is the collaborative vision of Heather Kahn and Kristina Skillin. Its purpose is to create an exhibition area for beaded artwork, form an artistic community, and provide a center of learning. The Museum of Beadwork showcases beaded artwork by housing and displaying the finest examples of beaded jewelry, clothing, sculpture, accessories and tapestries as well as the work of contemporary artists. The museum’s ongoing exhibitions present information on beadwork styles from all over the globe, the historic development of beads throughout human history, highlights of modern bead making processes, as well as extensive representations of beadwork.
